What is wrong with eating dogs?

Why is it insulting to call a footballer a dog eater. Are the whingers looking down on Chinese, Koreans etc. and being being racist?

I've been Vegetarian now for 8 years. I don't eat anything with a face...or used to have a face. I feel good about it.

Every day I feed a load of street dogs in Calcutta. About a year ago, a bunch of soldiers from Nagaland, a northeast Indian state where they eat dogs, took up temporary residence nearby. Dog owners in the area paid special attention to their pets and didn't let them out of their sight. Less easy to do for stray dogs. One of my street dogs went missing. A local security guard said the dog was taken by a northeast looking man. That dog never returned.

There are all kinds of cultures that dont eat all kinds of things for many different reasons. Just look at the Jews and the Muslims. There are cultures in india that wont eat anything that was “living”.

Objectively zero difference between eating a dog, cat, horse, sheep, cow, chicken, duck.

It's just two reasons that make it seem different. The 'value' we put on each creature and humanisation of them (i.e. dogs) and cuteness, and the normalcy with seeing certain meats for sale (cow, chicken) vs hesitancy or squeamishness about eating meats that aren't usual or come from ugly looking beasts.

It's all the same stuff wrapped up in different packaging really, aside from we've worked out which ones have the best qualities for pleasant eating and are the most economical in terms of yield, so those are animals you eat, whereas you don't bother with others.

Some bloke in a tundra, desert or forest who has to eat to survive or hasn't got our 'snobbish' sensibilities isn't really going to give a shit whether he captures kills and eats a hog, dog, yak or snake. Anything that's available.

Most animals are wise enough to give us humans a wide berth, they're not domesticated and are programmed to see themselves as potential meals.

Dogs have been domesticated over thousands of years and for the most part have had that natural fear bred out of them.

I couldn't eat them for that reason. Just seems wrong killing and eating something that you can lure to its death with a pat and a stroke.

I was working on site in Libya out in the sticks-I'll never get over seeing retriever puppies being cooked on a spit by the Philipino labourers after I'd been throwing an old tennis ball for them all afternoon - could never do it

I've eaten dog curry in South Korea and dog stew in North Korea.

North Korea holidays are all inclusive (a bit like Sharm el Sheikh but not as sunny) but you had to pay an extra $5 for the dog - I'd say in our group about half had it and half didn't

Surprisingly the dog stew was much tastier so, given the choice again, I'd choose the stew over the curry

I'd eat, or try to eat those XL pitbull types which are emerging and causing all kinds of harm to us humans. I'd also have a go eating the cuntish owners.

I would starve to death before I ate my gorgeous springer who is presently asleep on my feet.

I respect other cultures though, and if they want to feast on Mutt, let 'em.

Accidentally stumbled across a dog meat market in China which was pretty harrowing. Accidentally ordered a dog meat noodle soup. Smells and tastes like wet dog. I have abest friend named Milo who is a lab and knows nothing of my shady past. He’s has a fantastic life…for now

Ethics is perhaps the most interesting aspect of human consciousness. I stopped eating pigs as they have the intelligence of a young child and that just doesnt sit right with me.

Anything that lives wild is ok and sheep are a bit fucking stupid so killing them and eating them seems fair enough.
